Found this in a borrowed Av Safety Mag.
As of Feb 1, 2009 the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system will stop listening to your ELT on 121.5 and 243, your only hope will be another a/c listening on those emergency frequencies.The new system is on 406 MHz and is in use. Turbine a/c had to have them last year.A/C Spruce and West Marine have them but they
cost about $800. They are registered to a specific vehicle and person. If activated NOAA can call your house !For now, FAA only mandates them on turbine A/C.
