I've also read that comment about the Starduster's ailerons. I'm thinking it just has to be variability in each plane; how well does everthing align and the friction in the particular bearings and hinges used.
My SA300 is very light on the ailerons, both on the ground and in the air. There is no slop in the system and there is very little friction, and mine still has the standard bushing type of hinges. Things just worked out I guess.
